Fandom: World of Warcraft
Name: Sylvanas Windrunner
Canon Point: Wrath of the Lich King Expansion, pre-Wrath Gate
History: WowWiki Wowpedia

Personality: Sylvanas is a leader. She organize and strategize large numbers of people incredibly well. She runs not only a large city on an every day basis, but also provides for an entire race of people. She is also a military tactician of the highest caliber. But of course this applies mostly to her own race back home in Azeroth. She will still retain her sense of superiority (especially since she is surrounded by humans) and entitlement as a ruler, even though she understand she is far from those she rules.

Before her transformation into Undeath, Sylvanas was only stoic in military service. She had a family and a life outside of her duties as Ranger-General of Silvermoon, and she knew how to have fun. After her transformation to an undead, her easy smile and sense of joy was lost to her despair and bitterness. She dearly loves her sisters, and her family’s disowning of her is a sore subject.

Sylvanas has a sever case of PTSD, and she’s only ever dealt with what happened to her with anger and coldness. Revenge was always her first thought, and now she may very well have been robbed of it, it won’t make her a happier person to say the least. Being forced to bide her time in the Underworld will be frustrating if nothing else. Though being faced with a type of afterlife could affect her in different ways. (*See Edge of Night)

She also has a distinct prejudice against humans. It doesn’t matter to her that these aren’t the humans of Azeroth. A human is a human. Though she doesn’t think much of any other race either. She also has a dislike of being touched. Unless she initiates the contact herself, any physical touch will be, at best, avoided, at worst taken as a threat.

In general interactions, expect her to be cold and rude on her best days. She’s not above using icy sarcasm, and she certainly considers herself to be better than you. She will laugh at those who make fools of themselves in her eyes. Rarely do people gain her respect, but those who do are treated with courtesy and sometimes even a version of kindness.

Powers
Dark Ranger Abilities:

Vanish/Fade- She can turn invisible, and move with increased speed. Entering combat renders her visible again.

Black Arrow- She can create a magic arrow that inflicts agony on the target. It is a curse more than a physical weapon so one has to either outlive the effects, seek magical healing quickly, or have Sylvanas remove it herself. The curse will slowly damage the victim over time and can cause death, if it is not a fatal shot to begin with.

Life Drain- Exactly what it sounds like. She can drain the life out of her target. This is a channeled ability so she has to focus and cannot really move about while doing it. The life she takes will heal her as well.
Silence- She can temporarily cause her target to become mute. It wears off after about a minute.

Charm- She can temporarily take control of a target and force it to work for her. This is temporary, though she can make it last longer if she concentrates.

Bansidhe Abilities:

Will of the Forsaken- She is immune to fear by intimidation, mind control and any pacifying magics/abilities. As the most powerful of the Forsaken, hers is not a burst of will, but a constant thing. (However, it would be logical to assume that a being of greater power could override this passive trait. Like say….Gods.)

Cannibalize- this ability allows any Forsaken to consume the bodies of the dead to regenerate health.

Shadow Resistance- resistance to shadow or dark magical attacks. This is not to say they cannot work on her or harm her, but it allows her to shrug of these types of magic much more easily.

Underwater Breathing- She does not require air when under water for an unnaturally long period of time. Though apparently it is possible for a Forsaken to drown, as it is often seen that they do breathe naturally.

Bansidhe Song- Sylvanas has a magical singing voice. In life it was beautiful, and in death it can summon up ghosts to assist her, as well as give boosts to the health and abilities of those she counts as comrades in battle.

Ghost projection- During Hollow’s End, Sylvanas has displayed the ability to project her image and voice in a ghost like appearance to other locations. She can only appear in one spot at a time, so it can be assumed that this is very like astral projection, and that it is her actual spirit that is being sent out.

Raise Dead- If there are corpses in her vicinity, she can raise them as skeletal or ghoul like undead. They possess no intelligence other than to obey simple commands. They last for only a brief time, approximately 10 minutes, if not damaged or slain.

Regeneration- her wounds will heal themselves over time without medical assistance. It is a much faster rate than a living beings, but it is not so fast that she cannot be severely wounded.

Other singular attributes:

Increased strength- Sylvanas displays increased strength, as she is able to fight sword to sword with Arthas on several different occasions, who is super humanly strong, without having much trouble. Such strength is also required to wield the Sunstrider Bow in her possession.

Voice- Sylvanas’ natural speaking voice, since becoming a bansidhe, has a triple layered quality to it, as though three people are speaking at once in three different tones.

Lack of Nourishment- Forsaken are undead, and so do not need to eat nor drink. Doing so doesn’t harm her, but she only benefits from food or drink if she is injured, as it speeds the regeneration. She can become drunk.

Enhanced hearing- This comes from her High Elven physiology. Her long ears lend to a far keener sense of hearing than most.

Enhanced Sight- She has the ability to see in nearly pitch dark conditions. Her eyes are also fully red, with no whites or pupils, though the color deepens where the irises are. They also glow in the dark.

Specific Weaknesses
As an undead creature, she is particularly weak against Light or Holy magical attacks. She is a powerful undead being, so the effects may not be as strong against her, but the damage can be particularly painful to endure. Spells like Turn Undead, however do not actually work on her. And strangely, healing spells do not harm her at all.

Other Important Notes
Sylvanas is an undead creature. But certain things about undead physiology are important to note. First is her body. Sylvanas’s skin is a dusky blue tone, and her body seems to be fully intact. She does not decay, and seems to be preserved perfectly as she was when she was killed. She does bare scars from the wound Arthas inflicted on her during their battle, and from her subsequent torture afterwards.

Secondly, the Forsaken breathe. This is evident as when they are in colder climates, their breath is seen on exhale, just the same as a living being. This is ambient breathing, so it is not a function just for speaking. The fact that the breath can be seen, also suggests that the Forsaken are not utterly cold, and do produce some body heat. Though it is likely far less than a normal living body. However, it is uncertain as to whether or not they actually do have a heartbeat, as many Forsaken have commented that they believe their hearts do not beat. But the fact that they must produce some heat suggests that it is so. The most likely explanation is that their heartbeats are very slow, which would account for their production of heat, but being unable to truly notice their own pulse.

The Forsaken do have a functioning nervous system and can feel both pain and pleasure. Forsaken can get drunk. They can also engage in sexual activities, though they are all sterile and incapable of reproduction. They can eat, but they apparently produce no waste materials, nor do they truly get hungry. Eating is usually reserved to expedite healing.

First Person Sample:
[Accidental Video]

[The feed abruptly turns on to a blur of movement, and then mostly darkness. There is a strange grating or perhaps crunching sound that overrides most anything else. But those of keen perception may pick out the faint sounds of sword on flesh. After a few moments, silence reigns. Then the tablet is brought into the light again.

The red eyes would be noticed first. They have no whites or pupil, but there is a distinction between where the iris is, and the rest, as it is a darker hue of red. Those exotically turned eyes glow, giving a faint light to highlight the otherwise hood-shadowed features. The skin is a dusky blue, the hair a startling white that hints at faint yellow. Like all High Elves, she is otherworldly in her beauty, though hers obviously has long since taken a darker turn.

She is hardly paying attention to the strange device. She merely removed it from the mouth of the creature she had killed, and has no idea it is transmitting, or that it is capable of doing so. The creature is one from the river, a mixture of shark and octopus, though it is not very large. At least, by her standards. Though it is obvious she finds the beast a curiosity. She actually muses aloud, thinking herself quite alone. Her voice has a startling quality to it, sounding as though three women are speaking at once, in three different, though harmonious, tones.

What magic caused this fusion of beasts?

Third Person Sample:
She gritted her teeth, breathing through them in an effort to keep from making too much sound. It was difficult to not scream. The torture had been going on for… well it must have been days now. The stone floor was painted a deep rust color from all of her blood that had been spilt. And still, he would not kill her.

The necromancers were skilled. They had found many ways to inflict agony upon her. They had flayed her skin, little by little. They had broken her bones, one at a time. They had burned her with heated brands. They had frozen parts of her until her flesh had turned black. They applied venoms and poisons that caused her skin to bubble and melt away. All so slowly, that their subject might savor every moment. The did not want the next sensation to be dulled by the previous. After each session, they had healed her, so they might start anew with fresh, perfect flesh.

But not the wound in her abdomen. No, he had demanded that that one be left. As a mark and reminder.

He seemed to prefer it when she bled. He smiled more often when red ran down her body in small rivers. And today she was bleeding again. She hung heavily by her arms, chains about her wrists extended to Abominations that held them up just enough that she could go down to a knee, but never lie prone. It had long since made the pain in her shoulders turn to dull aches. At least, those she could ignore with their consistency.

She heard footsteps approaching, heavy and solid. He was approaching her. It wasn’t uncommon, so she didn’t bother to look up. She did not need to hold her head up to be defiant. Her refusal to scream was her resistance. He seemed to find it amusing.

She felt his gloved finger under her chin. She considered jerking away, but it would do her little good. So she allowed him to lift her head up. He was smiling that wicked, evil smirk of his, and she glared at him with all the hatred in her heart. She felt something cool press against her throat. A dagger perhaps? Was he finally going to finish this?

No, for it was soon removed. He showed her what he had done, lifting a small glass vial, full of her blood to her sightline.

“A souvenir of our time together, my dear.”

“Kill me you spineless coward!” She lunged at him, thinking to use her teeth to tear out his throat, and he did step back. Though he laughed while he did. He corked the vial and tucked it safely away, then signaled for his minions to begin their work again.
